Read the full storyHertsmere is a made-up word. It was coined in 1974 out of “Herts” and “mere”, an old word for a boundary, because the four places it joined together had no shared name and no centre. Borehamwood is the largest and where the council sits, next to the film studios. Bushey is nearly as big, Radlett is the wealthiest, and Potters Bar is cut off from the rest of the borough and faces Enfield and Barnet instead. Elstree, Shenley, Aldenham, Letchmore Heath and South Mimms fill in around them.
The Borehamwood Post covers all four. They may not have much in common, but they share a planning policy, a bin round and a council tax bill, and the decisions behind those are published where almost nobody looks. We look, and we link to the document every time.
